Alkali Powder Dogs and Cats (Basenpulver Hunde und Katzen)

Meat and many other foods increased the presence of acids in the body. In a healthy gut with strong digestive muscles, these acids remain inside the gut and are excreted in the faeces. However, if the protective layer formed by the gut muscles and mucous membrane is weakened, the acids may enter into the bloodstream and spread throughout the whole body. Other weak points are the lungs, skin and kidneys which are no longer able to neutralise the incoming acids, in the event of illness.

Cat and dog owners report various phenomena in their pets which may be associated with excess acidity. Typical symptoms which affect the digestive system include:  Consumption of earth or grass, excessive salivation, acidic belching, vomiting and heartburn

There are two ways of dealing with excess acidity:

• Reducing the intake of acidic foods (esp. meat) and increasing the intake of alkaline ingredients (e.g. vegetables). For dogs, a slight reduction in the amount of Anifit food is recommended along with the addition of vegetable flakes.
• Reducing the acidity of food given through the addition of a balanced alkaline powder.
